Apply for Graduation

Degrees are conferred in May, August, and December. However, commencement ceremonies are held only in May and December. Participation in commencement is not required but it is encouraged as a memorable part of the University experience.

Instructions

Students who expect to complete a graduate degree during the current academic semester must complete an application for graduation. The graduation application can be found within your MyISU Portal under the "Student Records" link, which is located in the "Student Self-Service Badge." The application must be submitted by the following deadlines:

  • March 1 for Spring graduates
  • October 1 for Fall graduates
  • June 1 for Summer graduates *

* Summer graduates (except doctoral students) may attend the Spring Commencement Ceremony. To appear in the Spring Commencement Booklet, Summer graduates must apply by March 1.

Only students who meet these deadlines can be assured of having their names appear in the commencement program.

Note: If the degree is not awarded, the student must reapply to the College of Graduate and Professional Studies to be placed in a future graduation term.

Requirements

In order to qualify for a degree, a student must complete all academic program requirements and all College of Graduate and Professional Studies requirements. In addition, the student must submit a completed program/contract of study form, which can be obtained from the student's academic department.

Important: Candidates for the Ed.S., Psy.D., or Ph.D. degrees must have completed all degree requirements prior to participation in a commencement ceremony, including successful completion of all coursework and successful defense and publication of their dissertations. Students who only have internships remaining may participate in the appropriate ceremony.
