Authority of the Faculty Affairs Committee

  • Formulate, implement, evaluate, and/or recommend policies and procedures pertaining to the faculty.

Functions of the Faculty Affairs Committee

  • Review the mission, vision, and value statements and make recommendations to the Steering Committee.
  • Formulate and recommend policies and procedures pertaining to the SON faculty including:
  • Appointment, retention, tenure, promotion, faculty performance pay (salary), workload, sabbatical applications, and leaves.
  • Facilitation of teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Review and recommend applicants for tenure, promotion, leaves, and retention.
  • Promote fulfillment of faculty obligations and standards of excellence regarding teaching, scholarship, service, professional ethics, and professional growth and development.
  • Advocate for faculty rights regarding sabbaticals, leaves of absence, retirement, travel and meetings, academic freedom, workload, and working environment.
  • Appoint Ad Hoc Committees as needed.
  • Submit an annual report to the Steering Committee.

  • The Faculty Affairs Committee shall consist of at least three tenured faculty and two instructors elected or appointed by the Faculty Assembly.
    • A Senior Instructor must be used for review of instructors being considered for promotion to Senior Instructor or any performance evaluation of a Senior Instructor.
    • Instructors are expected to participate in functions that apply to instructors in terms of annual reviews, promotions, and document revisions.

  • Meetings (except executive sessions) are open to members of the faculty, administration, staff, and students.
