Employee Development

Our training workshops develop insight and options in the areas of customer service, communication, leadership, personal effectiveness, and supervision. We will also work with individual departments throughout the University to offer custom-tailored training workshops to help achieve their primary team goals.

Our training and development programs are designed to improve individual and organizational performance in addition to assisting Indiana State University in achieving its overall institutional goals. Some of these programs have been carefully developed to assist employees increase their effectiveness by gaining greater knowledge of the university's operations.

DISC - Personality Profile Workshop -- Course length: 1 Hour
Productivity and teamwork are critical to the success of every organization, but often personality clashes among employees, supervisors and managers can have a negative effect on the team. Everyone has a personality - some stronger than others - and sometimes clashing personalities grow into major disruptions. The DISC training workshop is a fun and quick method designed to give your team members the tools and people skills they need to understand and appreciate the differences in the people they work with. The DISC model is comprised of four primary behavioral styles: D, I, S and C. Each style is very different, and each style comes with built-in conflict toward each of the other styles. Which style is best? The model doesn't focus on good or bad. What is good is the ability to understand, communicate with, and appreciate someone whose style is different from yours. This quick and fun training is ideal for a team meeting!

Webinar Wednesdays -- Course length: 1 Hour +
The Training and Development area will be hosting "Webinar Wednesdays". These sessions will take place during one Wednesday of each month, highlighting different topics of interest to the campus-community.

A "webinar" is a web-based seminar. Just as you would attend a seminar or conference and learn from experts, you can learn through webinars online. These sessions will be delivered by a presenter online with limited audience interaction, such as in a webcast that is projected onto a screen for multiple viewers. A webinar may include polling and question & answer sessions to allow full participation between the audience and the presenter. In some cases, the presenter may speak over a standard telephone line, while pointing out information being presented onscreen in the Human Resources conference room. Topics and dates will be announced as they are made available.

Sycamore e-Learning


The Department of Human Resources and the Area of Training and Development is proud to announce the arrival of our new online learning and development community; “Sycamore e-Learning”. This new learning website is FREE to ISU currently enrolled students, as well as full-time and part-time faculty and staff. The web-based learning area will be powered by Skillsoft; a pioneer in the field of learning with a long history of innovation. Skillsoft provides cloud-based learning solutions worldwide, which range from global enterprises, government and education customers to mid-sized and small businesses. Their courses, books and videos have been developed by industry-leading learning experts to ensure that they build talent and develop a more knowledgeable, productive and valuable workforce. Some exciting areas of interest to this new site are videos, books, study aids, test preps and more. These include:

  • Over 1,000 courses and videos including self-paced soft-skill training, technical training including; Microsoft Office, Windows8, Adobe, programming languages, and web development. 10,000 downloadable e-books
  • There will also be an opportunity to take training for personal career certifications such as IT and Business Certifications, which include Cisco, CompTIA, Oracle, Microsoft, PMI, PHR, SPHR, CPA, Six Sigma, and many more. This will save in costs normally associated with these expensive training materials. If you would like to be certified in a specific field, you would only need to pay for taking the ACTUAL exam at an off-site location.
  • Quick 1-hour courses are also available in leadership, management, customer service, resume writing, interviewing skills, sales, marketing, communication, presentation, team building, finance, accounting, business ethics, and time management, just to name a few
