Immigration Advising

One of the roles of the Office of Center for Global Engagement (CGE) is to assist incoming and current international students in navigating the complexities of immigration regulations, helping them achieve or maintain valid legal status.

CGE at Indiana State University provides advice, information and services related to your student visa and immigration status in the United States. Our role in CGE is to assist you to maintain your legal status; but please be advised that maintaining your legal status is your own responsibility. Our website has information about how to maintain your status while at Indiana State University and other important information to help you with immigration and SEVIS issues. You can find this information and under Immigration - Information on this website. If you are unsure of your status requirements, you should meet with your immigration advisor during our walking-in advising hours. Associate Director Mr. El-Houcin Chaqra, Assistant Director, Ms. Maria Chaqra, as well as Student Advisor, Ms. Jennifer are able to help with immigration questions. Mr. Chaqra also works with sponsored students, faculty travel grants and reviews international memoranda of understanding documents (MOUs) between Indiana State University and organizations from around the world. All international students, who need immigration advising, are welcome to visit our office during our Scheduled walk-in hours. Students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are unable to attend walk-in hours please call (812) 237-2440 to schedule an appointment.

For general questions, you may e-mail your immigration advisor. Your advisor will respond to your e-mail within 48 to 72 hours. Include your full name and ISU ID number in your message, and state the topic of your question in the e-mail subject line.
