Neighborhood Partnerships

Indiana State University has created formal partnerships with several nearby neighborhoods. Although each partnership is unique, our overarching goal is the same. We believe that by working together with our community partners, we can make certain that our local neighborhoods continue to thrive as great places to visit, live, and work.

Ryves Neighborhood Partnership

The Ryves Neighborhood Partnership includes several non-profit agencies and organizations that serve the Ryves Neighborhood, which encompasses the area from Chestnut Street to the south to 8th Avenue to the north, and from 13th Street to the west to 25th Street to the east. Initial partners include Saint Ann’s Clinic, Ryves Neighborhood Association, and Catholic Charities agencies, including Bethany House, Catholic Charities Foodbank, and Ryves Youth Center. The Center for Community Engagement offers a mini-grant program for faculty to develop service-learning projects with a partner in the Ryves Neighborhood. For additional information about the Ryves Neighborhood Partnership, contact heather.miklozek@indstate.edu.

Downtown Terre Haute

Downtown Terre Haute (DTH) is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to preserving, creating and promoting a downtown neighborhood that is a vibrant hub for business, entertainment, government, arts and educational activity. ISU entered a formal partnership with DTH in 2005. Members of DTH include local businesses and organizations located in the downtown district and individual citizens from throughout the community. DTH projects include business recruitment, support of the arts corridor, and promotion of downtown merchants and events, including the Downtown Block Party and First Fridays.

Current downtown priorities include retail recruitment and the development of a cooperative marketing program for downtown merchants. The web portal www.choosedowntown.com is the first major accomplishment of the cooperative marketing program. This on-line resource provides extensive information about businesses, arts and entertainment in downtown Terre Haute. For additional information about our downtown partnerships, contact daniel.pigg@indstate.edu.

Farrington Renaissance

ISU and Farrington’s Grove Historical District have partnered to form Farrington Renaissance, a Community Development Corporation focused on revitalizing the Farrington’s Grove neighborhood. Farrington Renaissance serves as a coordinating entity between ISU and the residents of the Farrington’s Grove Historical District for the purposes of research, education, and implementation of projects. For additional information about the Farrington Renaissance, contact jessica.starr@indstate.edu.

Rural Health Innovation Collaborative

The Rural Health Innovation Collaborative (RHIC) is a partnership between local higher education institutions, health care providers, and the City of Terre Haute. The mission of the Rural Health Innovation Collaborative (RHIC) is to improve and expand education and training of health care professionals and future health care professionals, especially for those committed to serving rural and underserved populations. One of RHIC’s five areas of focus is development of the neighborhood between Indiana State University and Union Hospital. RHIC’s plans include revitalization of the Locust and Lafayette Street corridors and housing/mixed use development. For additional information about the RHIC’s neighborhood development activities, contact stephanie.lawes@indstate.edu.
