Dr. Willie L. Banks Jr.

On March 16, 2015, Indiana State University President Dan Bradley announced Dr. Willie L. Banks Jr. had been named vice president for student affairs at Indiana State.

"I am pleased to have Dr. Willie Banks join our leadership team," Bradley said. "He brings significant experience in student affairs and will help advance our strategic goals related to student engagement and success. His expertise in diversity-related issues will also be tremendously beneficial as we work to implement the results of our climate study and create an environment of inclusive excellence."

Banks comes to Indiana State from Cleveland State University, where he is interim assistant vice president for student affairs. He has also served Cleveland State as associate dean of students for student life and as interim vice president for student affairs and dean of students. From 1993-2010, he held a variety of student affairs positons at the University of Georgia, including associate dean and director of intercultural affairs.

"I am deeply humbled and excited to be joining the Indiana State University community," Banks said. "During my visit, I was impressed with the level of engagement and care displayed by the students, faculty and staff. I am thrilled to start this next chapter of my career at Indiana State and to become a Sycamore."

Dr. Banks holds a Bachelor of Arts in public relations, with a minor in business, from Mercer University. He also earned two degrees from the University of Georgia: a master's in student personnel and a Ph.D. in student affairs administration.

Dr. Banks is a three-time recipient of the University of Georgia Student Affairs Outstanding Collaborative and Teamwork Award, has been named Southeast Region Outstanding Campus Activities Professional by the National Association for Campus Activities and has served on the board of directors for the Association of College Unions International.
