Computer Hardware Standard Purchases

OIT has been tasked with helping to reduce total inventory of computers on the ISU campus. To accomplish this and other goals OIT has made several changes to the way computers are acquired on campus. OIT has created standard computer configurations to help faculty and staff purchase machines that have been tested in the ISU environment and will satisfy most computing needs on campus. These computer standards will help assure that computers purchased fit the needs of the purchaser and reduce the purchase of multiple devices when only one is required.

OIT has made a commitment to keeping computer technology on campus as up to date as possible for everyone who needs it. To that end we have established some new procedures, outlined below, based on the needs of the campus community:

Current Faculty
Faculty will receive new hardware on a regular 4 year refresh cycle. OIT will make contact with each department to complete this process.

New Faculty (Tenure Track and Multi-Year Contract)
When new faculty are scheduled to arrive the department should contact the OIT Help Desk (x2910, it-help@indstate.edu) to request a New Faculty Purchase Consultation. The area Consultant will converse with the new faculty member about their needs to be sure the right equipment is ordered and prepared before their arrival.

Lecturer (Other than Tenure Track and Multi-Year Contract)
When new faculty are being hired the department should contact the OIT Help Desk (x2910, it-help@indstate.edu) to place a Lecturer (Adjunct) Computer Request. The area Consultant will assess their needs and a machine will be deployed from the OIT central pool.

Staff
New and current staff needs can be met by contacting the OIT Help Desk (x2910, it-help@indstate.edu) to request a Purchase Consultation. The area Consultant will assess the departmental need and assist in selecting the correct equipment.

ISU Computer Standards

ISU has selected Lenovo as our preferred computer hardware vendor. Lenovo has a strong commitment to reducing their environmental impact and the computers and monitors ISU has chosen have an EPEAT Gold Rating. For more information about EPEAT, please visit http://ww2.epeat.net/. The laptop and desktop standards listed below have been approved for campus and will satisfy most campus needs. Selecting one of the standards will make the ordering process proceed without delay.

The following links show summarized versions of ISU current standard computers. The following links show summarized versions of ISU current standard computers.

The Apple computers listed below require an approved exception. Exceptions will be approved if one of the following criteria is met:
   • Legacy Mac user
   • Needs are discipline specific
   • Software is only available for Mac
