LIVE Ceremonies Canceled due to COVID-19 Restrictions.
All of us at Indiana State University share in the disappointment of graduates, family, and friends that we will not be able to hold the Spring 2020 commencement ceremony. As the President indicated on March 16, we will be changing to a virtual graduation ceremony. Through this virtual graduation, you will be able to view video from the student speakers, see the names of the graduates, and hear the President officially declare all of you graduates of Indiana State University.
The university will be sending all students who applied for graduation a special package which will include a graduation program, diploma cover, tassel, honor stoles (if applicable), and alumni pin. You will not have to “attend” the virtual ceremony; it can be viewed at a time and place convenient for you and your family.
In the future, you will also receive information about how to attend the live December ceremony if you would like that opportunity. Please watch for additional information about how and where to post your own “home” graduation pictures to share with everyone and what we might have available for photo opportunities as well.
Given that this is a fluid situation, further information may be disseminated as new plans develop.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this difficult time.
Please visit our COVID-19 Update page for further information. Thank you.
Applying to Graduate
If you have earned 75 hours toward a baccalaureate degree you are eligible to apply for graduation.
To apply, sign in to your MyISU account and select the Student Self-Service Badge. Select the "Apply for Graduation - Undergraduate Students" link, then select your graduation term and indicate whether or not you plan to attend commencement.
You can also use this page to update to a later graduation date if necessary.
If your major(s)/minor(s) are incorrect, or if you have any questions, please contact the Office of Registration and Records.
Graduation Application Deadline
You have until the close of business on the last day of the term to apply to graduate. In order for your name to appear in the commencement program, or to be considered for graduation awards, the deadline to apply is October 15th for Fall graduates and March 15th for Spring and Summer graduates.
Completing Graduation Requirements
It is your responsibility to verify that you have completed any requirements for graduation. Contact your academic advisor to make sure you have completed all requirements.
Any coursework earned at another institution must be on file in the Office of Admissions on or before the close of the semester your degree is to be awarded in.
Baccalaureate candidates must have at least a 2.00 GPA and 120 earned semester hours, in addition to meeting all requirements for their program.
Receiving Your Diploma
You will receive a diploma cover at the commencement ceremony. Your complimentary paper diploma will be mailed directly to the address on file with ISU 3-4 weeks after the ceremony. Beginning with spring 2020 graduates, in addition to the paper diploma, all graduates will receive an eDiploma free of charge. Your ISU eDiploma is a signed and certified PDF of your original paper diploma used for easy diploma verification purposes. You will receive a Secure ID via your MyISU email to access your eDiploma once your complimentary paper diploma has been ordered (by ISU) and mailed.
A free copy of your transcript will also be mailed to this address, and will arrive before your diploma.
If your mailing address will change, you can update your address online through your MyISU account.
Summer Graduates - Commencement
Students who complete requirements for graduation in the summer term will be included in the Spring commencement ceremony. If you apply for graduation during a summer term, you will automatically be eligible for inclusion in that Spring commencement ceremony.
Commencement - Cap, Gown, and Invitations
Caps and gowns can be ordered online from the Barnes & Noble Bookstore. Invitations and other accessories may also be ordered through the bookstore. They can be reached at (812) 232-2665 for questions.
Fees and Balances
All obligations to the University, such as: library delinquencies, residence hall fees, breakage fees, etc., are to be met by the close of the semester your degree is to be awarded in.
Any hold on your ISU account will prevent your diploma from being delivered and any transcripts being awarded until it is resolved.
