Core Academic Skills Assessment (CASA)

The University Testing Center administers CASA exams for students pursuing degrees as teachers. These exams in reading, mathematics, and writing are required for students who major in a teacher preparation area. Testers may take all three exams at the same time or register to take each subtest one at a time.

Before arriving at the University Testing Center, students must pre-register for CASA exams at

For detailed information about CASA exams including each subtest, how to register, testing fees, necessary identification, and scoring, please refer to this document.

  • To help maximize availability for scheduling testing, we recommend purchasing each subtest of the CASA separately. Purchasing the exams separately will provide greater flexibility around your student schedule to take the exam. Please keep in mind that CASA testing dates and times are available on a first come, first served basis.

  • The duration and cost of each subtest are as follows:

    • Reading: 75 minutes ($38)
    • Mathematics: 90 minutes ($38)
    • Writing : 105 minutes ($38)

Note: An additional $25 proctor fee for non-ISU students will be due at time of testing.

  • CASA testing is available throughout the state of Indiana. For a list of available test centers across Indiana click here.
