What Should I Be Doing Now?

Building your Spring 2022 courses in Canvas

Our pilot faculty reported that, on average, they spent 20 hours building their first course in Canvas.  In order to help distribute that work into manageable chunks, we have added your Spring 2022 courses to Canvas early.  You should be able to access your new course shells beginning Monday, 9/27/2021.  If you do not see them in your dashboard, you will find the links in your “Courses” menu.  How do I view all my Canvas courses as an instruct... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)

The Spring 2022 courses are preloaded with the standard ISU template.  There is no requirement to use this template, but when building your course for the first time it will provide you with a head start in organizing your course material.  The template also contains the standard syllabus language and student resource tools so you can save some time. If you have already been developing your course in a sandbox with the template applied, it would be a good idea to remove the default template before you copy your materials.  To remove the default template, follow these instructions: How do I reset course content? - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)

Planning for Blackboard’s departure

Blackboard will be completely unavailable after Summer of 2022.  It is strongly recommended that you be prepared to teach in Canvas this Spring.  However, we understand that some people may have extraordinary circumstances which may require you to teach in Blackboard this Spring. For those individuals, you will need to submit the form linked below to get your course shell created in Blackboard. The deadline to request a Blackboard course shell is Wednesday, December 15, 2021. You can request multiple courses with one form.

What Training Is Available?

1-1 Sessions

For those who have some basic training accomplished, the Canvas 1-on-1 consultation sessions are now available for sign-up.  These are 30-minute sessions with a Canvas professional consultant who will be able to assist you with how to build your course.  To sign up for a session, click the link below.  That will take you to a Canvas course “ISU Canvas Resource Hub”. (If prompted to log in, use your ISU email and password.)  Enroll in the course by clicking the “Enroll” button, and then click on the link to “booking a 1:1 course review session”.  You will be able to review further information about the session, fill out a form that indicates your specific needs, and then finally be able to book a session.  There are limited times available, so sign up early!

Self-Paced Options
