ISU Applicant Tracking System Instructions

Click on the links below for step-by-step instructions on how to complete various processes for hiring student employees through the Applicant Tracking System. Student employment positions must be posted and made visible in the Applicant Tracking System. Please see below for circumstances where direct hires will be permitted.

Direct hire is allowed in the following scenarios:

  • GA moving into a student role over University breaks
  • SGA positions due to election process and appointments governed by their bylaws
  • Continuation of employment with Federal Work Study partner once work-study award runs out

Job posting guidelines:

  • Postings must be visible for a minimum of 7 calendar days unless it falls in one of the direct hire categories. Unless otherwise communicated, all postings will be visible for 30 days.
  • Position descriptions must clearly outline job duties and qualifications of candidates.
  • Selection of candidates must align with qualifications outlined in the job description and with alignment of skill sets to job duties.
  • In order for students to be paid for worked hours, they must be in a student employment line prior to executing the work. This ensures all legal paperwork is in place. This includes money awarded through a grant where students are hired for special projects.
