About
The Seventh Street Theater is one of two buildings that serve the Department of Theater, with a theater, Performance Lab classroom, and Technology Lab. Opened in 1979, the Seventh Street Theater, formerly known as the New Theater, is a 150-seat thrust theater near Cunningham Memorial Library. The building is among the oldest on campus, having been a dairy processing plant and barn in the early 1900s, though only the roof trusses are original to the building. The theater was renovated in 2018, in which a full tension grid was installed and the booth remodeled. A 2025 renovation saw brand new plumbing, bathrooms, dressing rooms, and green room.
Accessibility
The Seventh Street Theater offers several features to ensure a comfortable experience for all patrons. There is a semi-circular drop off area in front of the building with a level concrete path to the main doors.
The parking lot across from the street from theater is paved and offers a level pathway to the theater. The parking lot adjacent to the theater is paved and has concrete pathways, but does have smooth slope up to the theater entrance. There are multiple ADA parking spaces that allow for either side loading, or rear-loading. The slope is mobility-aid friendly for both hand-guided and powered mobility aids.
The theater, Box Office, and restrooms are located on the main floor, which has no stairs, and restrooms on this level include wheelchair-accessible stalls.
Inside the venue, there is ADA accessible and wheelchair-accessible seating available along with companion seats; patrons should reserve ADA or ADA Wheelchair seats when purchasing tickets.
All performances have content warnings posted on the ticket site and posted outside the theater doors. Contact the Department of Theater for more information about content warnings for each show.
