Painting - Graduate

Graduate courses in painting at Indiana State University are focused on individual growth, and the development of a visually articulate and nuanced approach to the relationship between form, content, and subject. The use of diverse painting materials and techniques is welcomed and encouraged, as is a range of stylistic approaches and subjects. It is expected that candidates for the graduate program will have received a thorough grounding in painting practice, as well as historical and contemporary art contexts, enabling them to be informed and active participants in regular individual and group critiques. Private and semi-private studio spaces in Fairbanks Hall and the Painting House, as well as access to digital equipment, photography and printmaking studios, and a wood shop, provide students with the opportunity to maintain a vigorous and ambitious studio practice.
