Program Description   The "Landscapes of Ireland" Experience will take ISU students to Dingle and Dublin to experience the rural and urban landscapes of Ireland and consider their role in the development of Irish literature, culture, and identity. Led by Dr. James F. Wurtz and Dr. Kathleen Heath, students will visit archeological sites and museums, hike through the beautiful landscape of Dingle and walk the city streets of Dublin, experiencing Mesolithic, Neolithic, Iron Age and Medieval ruins as well as life in a modern European capital city. Students will get to take advantage of a multitude of cultural opportunities, including musical and theatrical performances, historical and national heritage sites, and other popular culture events.

This trip is an interdisciplinary effort, bringing together Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Irish Studies, and Literary Studies in two individually-taught classes (ENG 338 and ENVI 303/497) as well as a team-taught upper-level course designed specifically for participants in this study abroad experience (ENVI 496). The interdisciplinary nature of this collaboration will enrich the experience of ISU students, providing an in-depth experiential learning opportunity and complementing their coursework by exposing them to different approaches to the study of Irish culture, history, and literature.
