Program Description   This tour provides students broad opportunity for experiential learning in cities of political, artistic, literary, humanistic, and historical significance to Western culture. Using the National Collegiate Honors Council's "City as Text" curricula, each student conducts guided field-research focused on a site selected during pre-trip classes and individual meetings. Cities we'll visit include Rome, Ostia, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Naples, Sorrento, Paestum, and Capri. A Spring 2018 cross-listed course, LLL350/GH 301 "Eternal Cities," is planned specifically to prepare students participating on this tour. Students enrolled in this Foundational Studies UDIE/Honors core course will create, in developmental stages, a research project culminating in Classics Fest and final research presentations. These continue on tour with in-person site research mentored by the faculty leaders. Students will also be guided in how to incorporate their in-person tour research with their class projects to create presentations suitable for academic events including the ISU Exposium, Classics Fest, and other student research conferences.
