Kim Oliphant Smith

Kim Smith was appointed to the Indiana State University Board of Trustees in 2015. A 1977 magna cum laude graduate of Indiana State University, the Linton native earned her law degree from the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis.  Smith began her career as a claims attorney with a large insurance company in Indianapolis before joining Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Company as vice president of human resources and general counsel. She worked her way up the company hierarchy being promoted to senior vice president, then executive vice president and in 2014 was named president and CEO. She currently serves as secretary of the ISU Board of Trustees and chairs its Finance Committee. She also is a member of the Indiana State University Foundation Board of Directors which she previously chaired and is on the board of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) and the American Association of Insurance Services (AAIS). In addition, she has served as a board member of the Indiana Compensation Rating Bureau and on the advisory board for the Indiana State University School of Business, Department of Insurance and Risk Management.
