GH 301: Oscar Wilde
This course will investigate the writings, life, and times of the Irish author Oscar Wilde (1854-1900.) Readings will cover the full range of Wilde’s published works – comedy, tragedy, poetry, correspondence, essays, criticism, journalism, short stories, and the novel – as well as recent scholarship on Wilde.
Wilde’s interests were diverse. In keeping, our approach to Wilde will be interdisciplinary and will allow and encourage students to incorporate their own interests from majors across the university and bring these into their research and creative projects for the course.
This course is specifically designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop their academic research, writing, and presentation skills. Students will have the opportunity to conduct original research on Wilde suitable for professional, scholarly presentation.
No previous knowledge of Oscar Wilde, his times, or original academic research is required to enroll in this class.
