Choral Ensembles
University Chorale
Course Number: MUS 219/419
The University Chorale is Indiana State University’s select mixed choral ensemble. Each year this talented ensemble performs choral selections spanning from the Renaissance period through the 20th Century (motets, anthems, spirituals, part songs, show tunes, and multi-cultural repertoire). Emphasis is placed on advanced vocal techniques. Concert Choir meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 2:00PM. Open to all students. Audition and consent of instructor required. Music Theater/Opera Workshop
Course Number: MUS 253A
Opera Workshop is designed to give intermediate to advanced singers experience in the preparation and performance of fully-staged opera and music theater scenes and productions. The course focuses on works that employ solo and small ensemble singing, for the development of musical and dramatic stage techniques with a minimum of sets and costuming. Open by audition to all students above the freshman level who are enrolled for applied voice study. Opera Workshop meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:15 to 1:45PM. Sycamore Singers
Course Number: MUS 115/315
Complete with period costumes and stylistic dances, the Sycamore Singers present several full Madrigal Dinners in the Fall Semester, performing literature, specifically motets and madrigals from all stylistic periods. In the Spring Semester, this ensemble performs show tunes, vocal jazz, and show choir selections. Sycamore Singers meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00–3:15PM. Open to all students. Women’s Concert Choir
Course Number: MUS 116/316
The Women’s Chorale, under the direction of Yana Weinstein, offers female singers the pleasure and privilege of learning, performing, and enjoying the very large musical repertoire composed for female voices. Singers perform a wide variety of musical styles from classic art works to lighter folk arrangements. General instruction in vocal production, sight singing, and musicality are included in the rehearsals of this group. Concerts occur both on and off campus. The ensemble is open to all female students who successfully pass an audition at the beginning of the academic school year.
