Criminology and Criminal Justice (M.S.)

Description

The School of Criminology and Security Studies offers an online master of science (M.S.) in criminology and criminal justice for academic criminologists and criminal justice professionals who are seeking to advance their careers or start new ones. The program allows working criminal justice professionals to obtain the academic credentials needed for careers in criminology, criminal justice, and related fields. The program is designed to help students build portfolios in their area of interest, such as criminological theory, law enforcement, investigation, corrections, cybercriminology, security studies, intelligence analysis, etc.

  • The master of science (M.S.) in criminology and criminal justice is a 36-credit-hour program.
  • The program is available to students who intend this as their terminal degree or for persons who plan to attend law school.
  • Graduates possess the knowledge required for professional practice in criminal justice careers and the skills needed to be intelligent, critical consumers of research information.
  • All courses are offered on-line. On-campus visits are not required.
  • This online program is open to eligible students in the U.S. (including the District of Columbia and all U.S. territories). The program also is open to students in Canada (all provinces). The program is closed to students residing in countries other than the U.S. and Canada except for U.S. military and State Department personnel and their family members with APO/FPO addresses.
  • Due to the popularity of this program, applicants may be wait-listed pending an opening.

Note: The School of Criminology and Security Studies also offers an online master of arts (M.A.) in criminology and criminal justice for students who intend to continue their graduate studies toward the doctorate in criminology, criminal justice, or other fields.

Required Courses

Financial Aid & Assistance

Graduate students may be eligible for federal student loans if they are admitted into graduate degrees (or first-time teacher certification programs) and meet other eligibility requirements. Certificate programs are not eligible for financial aid. Private alternative loans can help students pay college expenses that may not be covered by federal loan programs or other financial aid.
