Established in 2004 by a gift fromthe estate of Lela Meres Gill. Lela Gill earned her teaching certificate from Indiana State University in 1921, a baccalaureate degree in 1930, and a master's degree in 1938. She served the teaching profession for 48 years, including nineteen years as principal of the Davis Park Elementary School in Terre Haute. The scholarship is awarded annually to worthy students majoring in elementary education. Final selection is made by a faculty committee appointed by the chair of the department.
