Established in 2001 by his wife, Marguerite, in honor of Dr. Lloyd N. Smith who served as a professor of elementary education from 1946 - 1974. Dr. Smith was the first recipient of the Calet Mills Distinguished Teaching Award. The scholarship is presented annually to a deserving student in elementary education who demonstrates need and good promise as a future educator. Final selection is made by a faculty committee appointed by the chair of the department.
