The family of Mae McCracken established this scholarship to be awarded to a student from Vigo County who is enrolled full time at Indiana State University, maintains a "B" average and exhibits financial need. Elmeda Mae McCracken was a humble woman with a simple but elegant philosophy. She was devoted to her faith, her family, and her friends and neighbors. Finances prevented Mae from completing a college degree and becoming the teacher she always wanted to be but she continued to be a strong advocate for academic excellence. The family established the scholarship to honor the values that she exemplified. Final selection is made by a scholarship committee appointed by the Dean of the College of Education.
