Description

Radical Self Care - a partnership of the Black faculty, staff and friends. Though Black women in the United States are not a monolith, two controlling narratives have emerged: the strong Black woman super human, and the angry Black woman victim. Each of these images contains seeds of truth. Black women are strong; we have had to be strong to bear hundreds of years of enslavement and produce—literally—generations of workers, thinkers, artists, and freedom fighters despite evolving oppression (Evans et. al., 2017, p. 2-3). o Black women take pride in the practice of having many irons in the fire, a common theme is the desire to have balance among all of their priorities (Evans et. al., 2017) o The mind, body, spirit are three pillars of holistic healing. Together, these three always-entwined aspects of oneself - the physical, mental, and spiritual - combine to make us who we wholly are. They inspire and inform our experiences (Silver).  Mind is the mental processes, thoughts and consciousness  Body is the physical structure of a person  Spirit is a connection to something bigger than ourselves. It goes beyond spirituality. • Opening Session - we will be joined by women of Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho as they share what they provide for the self-care of their members. • Join on August 31, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. via ZOOM link: https://indstate-edu.zoom.us/j/91833792678 • Meeting ID: 918 3379 2678 • Free and Open to the Public!
