| Program Description: | This 10 day program will focus on the history and present-day practices of nursing in the UK and Ireland with a focus on community health. Participation in this trip will satisfy all of the community health clinical requirements. All plans are tentative, but here is a sample itinerary: Day 1: Depart Indiana for London Day 2 & 3: Tour Kensington and Hyde Parks, learn how to use the Tube to get around London, visit Covent Garden, the Florence Nightingale Museum, The Old Operating Theatre, and visit the archives of the British Red Cross. There will also be a walking tour and a lecture to explain the British health care system and locations of interest. Day 4: Morning on your own; Flight to Dublin in afternoon. Upon arrival you will be taken to your homestay accommodations where you will stay with a local family for the duration of the trip. Day 5: Free travel day Day 6-10: Attend an academic program at Trinity College Nursing and Midwifery International Summer School where you will learn about topics such as marginalized groups, the Irish birth experience, and travel to clinical sites within the Irish Health Services. | |
| Note: | There will be time for you to explore on your own in both London and Dublin. Homestays will allow you to stay in a home in either in Dublin or Dún Laoghaire on the coast. You will eat meals with the family and use public transportation such as the train and bus. |
