Minors

There are four minors that students can choose from:

  • Theater
  • Theater Acting
  • Entertainment Design & Technology
  • Dance

Required courses and electives for each minor are listed below.

Theater Minor

(27 Credits)

The Theater minor provides a broad and solid foundation in the artistic, intellectual, and practical aspects of theater that prepares students for professional careers as actors, playwrights, directors, and designers. 

Note: The Theater Minor is not available to students who have declared the Theater Major

Theater Acting Minor

(24 Credits)

The Theater minor provides a broad and solid foundation in the artistic, intellectual, and practical aspects of theater that prepares students for professional careers as actors or for careers that have public presentation as a regular element.

Note: The Theater Acting Minor is not available to students who have declared the Theater Major.

Note: No more than two of the following three credits can be taken from the dance technique (PE) courses.

Entertainment Design and Technology Minor

(27 Credits)

The Minor in Entertainment Design and Technology is open to all majors and is designed for students who have an interest in focused coursework in Theater or Entertainment Design and Technology, but who choose to major in another discipline. The curriculum is structured in such a way that students will be introduced to all areas of production and may also undertake more focused study in scenery, lighting, costumes, sound/projections or technical direction. The restricted electives are intended to offer relevant interdisciplinary coursework. Students who complete the ED&T Minor will be prepared to pursue careers in a variety of production areas in theater, television, themed entertainment, film, live events, and related industries.

Note: The Entertainment Design and Technology Minor is not available to students who have declared the Theater Major with a concentration in Entertainment Design and Technology.

Dance Minor

(17 Credits)

The dance program allows students to discover and sharpen their mind/body connection while learning theory and practice simultaneously.

Note: The Dance minor is offered through the College of Health and Human Services in the Department of Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport.
