Transition to Teaching - T2T

The Department of Teaching and Learning at Indiana State University provides graduate level T2T programs for professional candidates who wish to earn an Indiana teaching license while simultaneously earning credit toward a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree.

T2T programs in Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education have been approved by the Indiana Department of Education and are open for enrollment. Individuals who are enrolled in approved T2T programs are eligible for a T2T permit, which allows them to begin teaching while completing the program. Click here to explore open teaching positions. Secondary Education

The Secondary Education T2T program is an 18-credit program that can be completed in 12 months of part-time study. Students may begin the program in May, August, or January. Admission Requirements

The Indiana Department of Education establishes the admission criteria for T2T programs.  All applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited postsecondary educational institution. If your bachelor’s degree is in the subject area you intend to teach, you can be admitted if:

  • Your undergraduate GPA was at least 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale; or
  • Your undergraduate GPA was at least 2.50 on a 4.0 point scale and you have five (5) years of professional experience

If your bachelor’s degree is not in the subject area you intend to teach or you do not qualify for admission based on the GPA requirements above, you can be admitted if:

  • You have a graduate degree from an accredited postsecondary educational institution in the subject area you intend to teach; or
  • You submit proof of passing the state approved content area examination(s) in the subject area you intend to teach. Click here for information about content area exams

Elementary Education

The Elementary Education T2T program is a 24-credit program that can be completed in 16-18 months of part-time study. Students may begin the program in May, August, or January. A complete application to the T2T program will require a resume/CV and official transcripts.  Applicants who need to submit content area test scores will be directed to do so after an initial review of application materials
